What is Glucomannan?
Glucomannan is a soluable dietary fibre and the principle active ingredient derived from the root of the Konjac plant. How does Glucomannan work?
Like all good vegetables, Konjac is absolutely packed with pure natural fibre. What makes konjac special however, is that this particular fibre, glucomannan, is highly water soluable. As such, when mixed with water it forms a gel-like substance and swells in size. When ingested, glucomannan expands in the digestive system and this has the natural effect making you feel more full while having eaten less.
This special quality of konjac has been recognised in Japanese culture for a centuries. A traditional Japanese side-dish, konnyaku is a kind of gelatinous, starchy cake.
